RETABIT Platform: Transforming cities through data-driven building renovation

RETABIT is a platform that supports integrated analysis and planning of renovation projects, aiming to facilitate the decarbonization of the building stock and promote sustainable urban development.

It consists of two tools: RETABIT Analyse and RETABIT Plan

What RETABIT can reveal about your city’s buildings

  • The platform makes it possible to assess the renovation potential of residential buildings in a municipality by integrating key data such as cadastral information, energy certificates, demographics, housing costs, income levels, and accessibility to public amenities, among others.
  • Through indicators that combine environmental, economic, and social criteria, RETABIT provides a holistic view of the residential building stock. This allows for the identification of priority areas and building typologies that require intervention, optimising decisions based on environmental impact, renovation costs, and the socio-economic benefits for the community.

In the Mirasol neighbourhood of Sant Cugat del Vallès, in the province of Barcelona, Retabit has been applied to design a Local Energy Community (LEC) where neighbours, businesses, and public institutions can generate, share, and manage renewable energy locally—ensuring that the environmental and financial benefits stay within the community.

Using Retabit Analyse and Retabit Plan, municipal experts identified 218 residential buildings that could either supply surplus solar energy or benefit from shared renewable power—prioritising vulnerable households and high-energy consumers.

The analysis combined technical data, socio-economic indicators, and spatial data to target renovation efforts where they can deliver the greatest impact.
